UTV

The WATVA and the Alliance is asking for our help in contacting the US Forest Service for the following reason:

Many ATV and UTV riders can ride their UTVs legally up to the property line of Forest Service trail boundaries and then they are shut out if their UTV is more than 50 inches wide. Once they leave county lands and onto the Forest Service trail or forest road (as many of these same trail systems interlink with USFS trails and roads) they are in federal violation because the Forest Service still isn’t allowing UTVs on their trails unless the UTV is less than 50 inches wide (their national width standard). Likewise the Forest Service folks we work with tell us they are not hearing ANYTHING from the public asking them to change their Forest Service policy that WOULD allow the same UTVs we have defined under the state UTV program.

To help support this cause, sending a simple email to Joan Marberger at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it is all you need to do (see below). Please take a few moments to send a short email, it could make the difference! It has taken a lot of effort to get where we are with the UTV program, let’s take it a step further to make it even better.

Thanks for your support.

Subject: Your UTV customers need to respond - HELP!!

Dear WATVA Dealerships & Businesses:

As you know, the Wisconsin ATV & UTV Association  spent considerable time and resources working the legislative process to get the current UTV program passed into law after the initial 2 year pilot test ended. As your member representative, we will again be working with the new Wisconsin legislature soon, this time asking lawmakers to make the program permanent and with a separate UTV sticker.

However, we have a new problem, we need your help!!!

Most of our trails are on county property but we have a fairly significant number of miles that crisscross our federal lands of the US Forest Service (USFS). Therein is our problem, once a year the USFS  asks for citizen input related to what they call their Motor Vehicle Use Map (MVUM). Basically they want citizens to tell them what forest roads and trails people would like additional ATV and now potential UTV trails access on.

Currently we have 22 counties and more considering to come on board in the expanded pilot test  UTV program. Many of your current ATV and UTV customer / riders can ride their UTVs legally up to the property line of Forest Service trail boundaries and then they are shut out if their UTV is more than 50 inches wide.

We need you to get your UTV riders / supporters to contact the Forest Service NOW!

The U.S. Forest Service is currently in the process of determining whether or not UTVs over 50 inches wide will be allowed on their ATV trails. If you wish to submit a comment, the deadline is November 30. You can send a message via e-mail to Joan Marberger at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it

Ask your UTV riders / supporters to tell the Forest Service they would like the same width UTVs as the Wisconsin UTV program allows on the county ATV trails.

For those that want to see our response, it is attached, feel free to use if for a reference but PLEASE get your customers and business to e-mail Joan soon!!
